Christmas Lights Switch- on

“I’m pleased that we were still able to go ahead with switching on the Christmas lights this year. However, this was unfortunately a closed event due the restrictions. I was joined by Father Christmas to do the countdown and switch the lights on. As always, the lights made a fantastic display in the public gardens and through the centre of the town. I’m sure this will brighten up the town and bring some Christmas cheer.

As part of the switch on I recorded a short video clip which will form part of a district wide video being created by Braintree District Council. This will be available to see online from 12th December.

I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the many people that have supported the residents of our town during this difficult and challenging year.

In particular the work of the NHS and key workers who have shown true commitment and dedication to help others – we thank them with all our hearts.

Locally in Halstead a group of more than 40 volunteers came forward to provide much needed help and support to over 80 vulnerable residents in our town. This group was co-ordinated by our Town Clerk, Sarah Greatorex – we thank them all for their acts of kindness and support.

In addition to this I’m sure there were many other acts of kindness and support given by many other people during the pandemic – we thank you all.

Thanks also to all the Town Council staff who have adapted well and kept things moving during the year.

All of this just goes to show what a great community spirit we have in Halstead that serves us well in these difficult times.”

Mayor and Chairman of the Council
