Halstead Town Council joins the nation in mourning the death of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His service to this country over seven decades was exemplary, and his lasting achievements are the early interest in protection of the environment, and the Duke of Edinburgh award, which encouraged , and still encourages young people to venture out into the world, and achieve more than they could ever have imagined.

Floral tributes and donations
Although this is an extraordinarily difficult time for many, we are discouraging laying flowers in public areas and not to gather at Royal Residences, and to continue to follow public health guidelines in place to keep us all safe, particularly on avoiding meeting in large groups and on minimising travel. We are supporting the Royal Household in asking that floral tributes should not be laid at Royal Residences at this time. You can read more about their wishes on their website.
Buckingham Palace have suggested that those who wish to make a donation as a tribute to His Royal Highness are encouraged to give to a charity of their choosing or one of the charities or organisations which The Duke of Edinburgh supported in his public duties: https://www.royal.uk/donations . It is understandable of the enormous financial pressures that the current situation is placing on some people and nobody should feel obliged to donate.
