Halstead Town Council
Press Release – 10th May 2022
Mayor of Halstead
“At the annual town council meeting on Monday 9th May I completed my term as Mayor and Chairman of Halstead Town Council. This now completes two years in this position and it is now time to pass on the responsibility to a new mayor for the civic year 2022/23. I’m delighted to confirm that councillor Mrs Jackie Pell was duly elected the new Mayor and Chairman at the meeting on Monday. As many of you know Jackie is a long serving councillor and this is particularly fitting as it’s her 40th year as a town councillor. I wish her the very best in her new role in the coming year.
It has been an honour to have served as mayor for the past two years. Halstead is a great place to live and has a very strong community which has stuck together and supported each other through the challenging times presented to us by the Covid 19 pandemic. There are now many signs of recovery with community groups getting back together and community events being held for all to enjoy. The forthcoming Jubilee celebrations gives a real opportunity to rekindle the community spirit.
I was delighted to be able to present a cheque for £1,600 to the Halstead Day Centre as my Mayor’s charity for 2021/22. This was the proceeds from the generous contributions made at various events during my term of office as Mayor of Halstead. The Day Centre does great work in providing a friendly environment for over 60’s to socialise and be included in a range of activities that reduce isolation and encourage well-being. I’m very pleased to have been able to support them.
Finally, I would like to thank the town council staff for their help and support and also my deputy Cllr Dave Gronland who has generously supported me with his help, advice and guidance in the past two years. “
