Halstead Town Council, councillors and staff, are mourning the loss of a longstanding member of the council, David Hume. David was a member of the Town Council for 20 years, and Mayor of Halstead and Chairman of the council for 8 consecutive years, from 2008 – 16. He was also a Braintree District Councillor.

But David was more than just a councillor. He had a distinguished career as a teacher and headteacher in the primary sector. He was a member of every possible organisation in the community of Halstead where he felt he could make a contribution – St Andrew’s church, Halstead in Bloom, Courtaulds Sports Ground Management Committee, Probus, Rotary to name a few. He was a man who looked outwards to the community to see what he could do to help, in any way.

At the council, we remember him for his thoughtfulness, his full consideration of issues, his modesty, and his total commitment. We will miss his advice drawn from his many years of experience, but we celebrate a life so well lived.
